Students admitted to the B.Ed. degree course shall undergo course of study and practical work in three core subjects, one optional subject and one elective subject as per the structure and scheme of examination given below

M.Ed. (Regular)
One year full time Semester Course

Eligibility for Admission
Candidate having 50 percentage of marks for the B.Ed. Degree is eligible to apply for seeking admission to M.Ed. Degree Course. SC/ST and OBC candidates get usual relaxations as per rules of the Government and University.

Dissertation
The Dissertation should be on some educational theme ordinarily related to the fields of education approved by the university and supervised by a member of the faculty of the school. This report should be approximately between 10,000 and 20,000 words depending up on the nature of the topic. Four copies of dissertation bound as per instructions will have to be submitted together with 3 copies of the summary during the second semester.

Viva-voce
A comprehensive Viva-voce Examination shall be held after the second semester theory Examination.

Attendance
A candidate shall be permitted to appear the examination if he/she scores a minimum of 80% attendance for each semester. If a candidate fails to appear for the examination due to shortage of attendance in semester, he/she shall obtain re-admission to the respective semester and complete the course as per the rules and regulations of the University.

Additional Elective
The M.Ed. Degree holder of Mahatma Gandhi University who desires to appear in a new elective subject under Group I or Group II may do so (one elective at a time) if he/she fulfils the conditions prescribed by the University. To appear in a new elective under group I, he/she should have Master's Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks. To appear in a new elective under Group I or Group II, the candidate shall get admission during the second semester and shall have attendance for a minimum period of three months. He/she can appear for the written examination of that elective paper along with the second semester examination.

Examination Scheme
External examination in written papers shall be held at the end of each semester. Each of the written paper carries 100 marks. The Assignments and the internal written examinations shall be considered for internal assessment with maximum of 10 marks for each subject so as to make a total of 60 marks for the written papers. (I semester – 30. II semester – 30) In the first semester 20 marks are also included in the internal assessment for the performance of the student in seminar on Research methods. In the second semester also 20 marks are included in the Internal assessment for the preparation of a Research tool. Thus first and second semesters carry 50 narks each as internal assessment.

The Dissertation shall be submitted three weeks before the commencement of the second semester examination. The dissertation carry 250 marks and the Comprehensive Viva-voce examination carries 50 marks.

A candidate shall be declared as having passed the M.Ed. Degree Examination if he/she obtains a minimum of 50% marks on the aggregate for each semester and a minimum of 40% marks for each written paper. If a candidate obtains less than 50% marks for the dissertation, he/she shall re-submit the dissertation on any subsequent second semester examination.

A candidate shall be declared as having passed the M.Ed. Degree examination in second class if he/she obtains a minimum of 50% marks on the aggregate of two semesters and who secures 60% marks and above on the aggregate of two semesters shall be placed in the first class. This will also be applicable to the results of candidates availing more than one chance.

A candidate failed for the first semester examination may be permitted to continue for the second semester. But he/she can appear for the first semester in the next or subsequent academic period only. If a candidate failed for the second semester, he/she can appear for the second semester in the next or subsequent academic period.

A candidate may be permitted to take the written examination and fulfill the dissertation requirements separately during the second semester or vice-versa but more than two chances shall not be given for either. If a person fail for the written papers (Part I) or Dissertation (Part II) he/she may appear for that part only. A candidate can appear for the viva-voce at the end of the second semester examination even if he/she has to complete the first semester examination.

An M.Ed. Degree holder may be permitted to improve his/her class by appearing only for the written examination with in next two academic periods. For improvement of class, only one chance shall be given and the candidate shall appear for both first and second semesters and be in the same academic year. The marks for dissertation, viva-voce and Internal assessment will be same and will carry over to the appearance for improvement.
